The Second Northern War A military issue where, Eastern European countries challenged the power of Sweden. Issues were tied into availability and use of the Baltic by the Swedish. Causes: Sweden’s growth in the Baltic Area bothered surrounding states, Sweden blocked Russia’s access to the Baltic. Effects: Downsizing the effects of Swedish influence and the gain of Russian power in the region. Death of Swedish King. Sweden thought they could take advantage of the surrounding states because of their fragile religious state, but in the end it backfired and these countries used their charge emotions to take away Sweden's power and allow Russia to gain power. |
The Russo-Polish War
1919-1920 Major conflict because both the Soviet Union and Poland desired to seize Ukraine. Causes: Poland forming alliance with Ukrainian Nationalist and there attempt to seize control of Ukraine, Russia considering seizing Ukraine. Effects: Russo-Polish border existing until 1939. Increase in tension between Russia and Poland, death of Ukrainian people as both Russia and Poland tried to control it. |
World War 1 The first war that involved countries all across the globe, the war put the central powers of Germany against the allied countries consisting of the U.S., France, Italy, Japan and the Soviet Union. Causes: The Great powers were challenged by the German powers, Economic competition between European powers, breakdown of European treaties, nationalism. Effects: Germany lost a great amount of land, creation of new countries in that land taken from Germany, The league of Nation was created.
