The sub-region of Eastern Europe has various aspects that boost immigration these include landscape and climate, cost of living, government programs, jobs, and education. The beautiful countryside of Eastern Europe provides a perfect home for people in retirement or want a more secluded rural lifestyle. The temperate continental climate gives people a taste of a true winter and a mild summer. Government programs like free healthcare, reasonably priced insurance, welfare and social security, all attract people from other regions. The economy in Czech Republic and Poland are at an all time high currently, more benefits are offered in this sub-region, and a wide variety of business opportunities appeal to younger people. The high quality of education and variety of languages taught draw families from all over the world. The land here is not of high value and is usually cheaper than other parts of Europe. All of these are factors of immigration and continue to draw people to Eastern Europe.
This map shows Eastern Europe's net migration as in the negatives. Russia is in the positives, but below 10, and the rest of the region is lower than 0. This means more people are emigrating than immigrating here.
Emigration of Eastern Europe (Push Factors)
Emigration in Eastern Europe is greatly affected by poverty rates, government corruption, lack of civil rights, and the economic recession. The average person living in Moldova makes under $300 USD a month for many people this is not enough to provide for their family of even themselves, people move away in search of higher paying jobs. The low paying jobs aren’t the only problem this region suffers, many countries are facing economic recession and losing jobs. Government corruption is a big issue in countries including: Russia, Ukraine, Romania, and Bulgaria, citizens believe their government is untrustworthy and do not want to live under their rules. The civil rights offered are often lesser than those offered in MDC like Switzerland, Australia, and Canada. For these reasons and more, people are choosing to immigrate to better countries in their eyes.
